What we do

Painting and decorating services

Good decorating is mostly preparation. Filling, sanding, caulking and priming take longer than the paint itself, and they're what decide whether a finish looks crisp or shows every flaw once the light hits it.

Because we also do the electrical work, the carpentry and the fitting, decorating is often the last stage of a job we've already been carrying out. Chases, new sockets and fresh joinery are made good and painted by the same team, so you aren't left looking for a decorator to finish someone else's work.

01

Interior painting

Walls and ceilings painted to an even, clean finish, with crisp cut-in lines and furniture and floors protected.

  • A single room refreshed
  • A whole floor or house redecorated
  • Getting a property ready to sell or let
02

Woodwork & panelling

Skirting, architrave, doors and panelling prepared and painted for a durable, wipe-clean finish.

  • Tired, chipped or yellowed woodwork
  • New skirting, doors or architrave
  • Panelled walls and feature joinery
03

Preparation & making good

Cracks filled, surfaces sanded and gaps caulked, so the top coat has a sound surface to sit on.

  • Hairline cracks and old fixing holes
  • Gaps along skirting and architrave
  • Patch repairs to damaged plaster
04

Decorating after building work

The room finished off after a rewire, new joinery or a renovation, without waiting for another trade.

  • Making good after new sockets or a rewire
  • Painting new stud walls and boxing-in
  • Finishing a new kitchen or bathroom

Local expertise

A decorator who knows Norwich homes

Norfolk homes give decorating plenty of character to work around: lath and plaster ceilings in Norwich terraces, uneven walls in older cottages and the fresh plaster of a new extension all need different preparation. Treating each surface for what it is, rather than painting over the problem, is what keeps a finish looking good for years rather than months.

Start to finish

We take care of the whole job

Planning, ordering, creation and completion, all handled by Acorn, with one point of contact from the first visit to the final sign-off.

  1. 01

    Planning

We visit, listen and talk through the options that suit your home and budget, then confirm everything in a free, written quote. Projects over £500 take a 50% deposit, with the balance on completion.

  2. 02

    Ordering

We source and order the materials, units and fittings, and arrange deliveries around the programme, so you're never left chasing suppliers. Already chosen your own? We're happy to fit them.

  3. 03

    Creation

The work itself, carried out carefully and tidily by one team for the electrics, fitting and finishing. You'll know who is coming and what's happening each day.

  4. 04

    Completion

Electrical work tested and certified, every detail checked, and the space cleaned and handed back only when you're happy. Afterwards, you'll still speak to the same person who did the job.

Reviews

Trusted across Norfolk

Verified Google reviews from homeowners we've worked for.

“Phill has just come and completed 5 weeks work for us, in that time taking a complete shell to a stunning new bathroom, a revamped utility area and also fitted a new consumer unit for all our electrics, along with other jobs along the way. We can't recommend him highly enough - Phill took time to make sure of what we wanted, updating us regularly on the plan of works and thinking about all the big and small details to make sure things serve us well for many years to come. Phill is reliable, professional and friendly and will make sure things are finished just as you want. We have booked to have more work done very soon.”

Charlotte Harris Cook

Bathroom, utility and consumer unit

“We hired Acorn Electrical & Home Improvements to carry out some small building works at our barn conversion. Phillip and the team were punctual, diligent and professional over the 2-week project, even when faced with some nasty surprises from an old building. Super happy with the result, and we would have no hesitation in recommending them. We will be asking Phillip to quote for another project very soon.”

Carl West

Barn conversion building works

“Phil has done several different jobs for us over the last week. He replaced a wobbly gate post, designed and fitted a picket fence around a new flower bed, replaced the rotting pieces of wood in a tall fence having taken it to bits, replaced an outdoor electrical socket, and noticed some guttering was not working then fixed it. The main job he came to do was to re-clad 2 sides of a large shed with timber. He has great communication skills so we knew what to expect at all times, and he made sure we were happy at every stage. He came when he said he would, and actually finished the job ahead of schedule. He's friendly, trustworthy and easy to have around, and we have already booked him for another job before Christmas!”

Common questions

Painting and decorating questions

Need a more specific answer? Call Phillip and you'll speak to the person doing the work.

Yes, and it's one of the most common reasons people ask us. Rather than leaving you with chases and patches to find a decorator for, we make good and finish the room ourselves.

We can include materials in the quote, or work with paint and colours you've already chosen. Either way, it's agreed in writing before work starts.

It depends on the size of the room and the amount of preparation it needs. You'll get a realistic timescale with the written quote.

Small items and breakables are best moved beforehand. Larger furniture can usually be moved into the centre of the room and covered.
